Periclo has been awarded a grant by Wrexham County Borough Council to deliver a community event in support of the region’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2025.

Our proposed event is the launch of a new map of Wrexham titled ‘Gwrecsam – City of Subculture’. The map will feature hidden cultural gems, with recommendations and anecdotes provided by Wrexham’s creative community.

The name ‘Gwrecsam’ is the old Welsh name for Wrexham, which is being used to highlight alternative and obscure narratives within Wrexham’s county-wide creative community.

The launch event will be taking place in May 2022, with a date yet to be confirmed.

In the lead up to the event we will be hosting a map making workshop with artist Lisa Santana. More information about this workshop will be release very soon.

It is intended that the ‘Gwrecsam’ map will be co-produced by multiple members of Wrexham’s creative and cultural community. We plan to continue gathering content for the map beyond the launch of the first edition.
