Gwrecsam Mapping Workshop
Gwrecsam Mapping Workshop
The first ‘Gwrecsam’ mapping workshop was held on Saturday 26th March at Wrexham Enterprise Hub.
Hosted by artist Lisa Santana, the fully booked event represented the first step en route to publishing Periclo’s first ‘Gwrecsam’ map.
Participants were introduced to different forms and methods of mapping. They were then invited to take part in an exercise, taking to the street of Wrexham to survey different aspects of our surroundings. Focus points ranged widely, from birdsong to chimney pots.
After collecting and discussing the results of our town centre survey we set about developing our own maps based on what we had learned
The workshop closed with a discussion around next steps for the ‘Gwrecsam’ map project, with all attendees keen to contribute and participate beyond the first event.
The ‘Gwrecsam’ map will identify alternative narratives and obscure cultural sites across Wrexham County. The map will feature contributions, recommendations and annotations from Wrexham’s creative community.
The first issue of the ‘Gwrecsam’ map will be launched on Saturday 21st May at Olivet Chapel, Rhosrobin.
This event was funded by Wrexham County Borough Council in support of the #Wrecsam2025 UK City of Culture bid. We would like to thank WCBC, Wrexham Enterprise Hub and Lisa Santana for making the event happen. We would also like to thank The Dispensary Gallery for documenting the event.
