Artist Biography
Matthew Walker is an inquisitive and diligent transdisciplinary artist, navigating the contradictions and complexities of contemporary culture through his evolving body of work.
As a meticulous observer, Walker has conducted ethnographic investigations into the domains of stand-up comedy, sex work, and rave culture, utilising photography as his principal medium. By immersing himself in these subcultures, Walker strives to unveil their inner workings, creating images that gently illuminate the nuances of human experience.
In recent times, Walker has expanded his artistic inquiry to examine the socio-political implications of automation and the role of neo-liberal and conservative ideology in shaping the future of labour. This progression demonstrates Walker’s commitment to engaging with timely issues, as well as his adaptability as an artist.
Walker is currently integrating his political explorations with his ethnographic study of rave culture, showcasing his capacity to identify connections between seemingly disparate subjects. As a post-medium artist, he thoughtfully employs diverse techniques and materials to compose works that merge visual appeal with intellectual curiosity.
With a measured and reflective approach to art, Walker’s keen interest in the intersection of culture, politics, and society shines through his work. Steadfast in his pursuit of artistic growth and genuine in his desire to contribute to the broader conversation, Walker remains a studious figure within the contemporary art sphere.
