Artist Biography
Leigh Hedd is a Wrexham-based artist whose artistic practice is confessional – working through traumatic life events and deep-rooted feelings/fears. Leigh recycles “things that stick” – unforgettable, harmful phrases or words that can cause a detrimental impact. They view their practice as a portal in which they translate their emotion. Their work is mostly self-portraiture as a response to these things that stick. The creative process is just as important to Leigh as the final product as it can raise such high emotions and trigger emotional responses.
Leigh aims to create a mixed reaction to their work through carefully selecting colour palettes and materials that generate an initial whimsical impression. This contrasts against the often-deprecating statements conceived to unsettle the viewer when read. Leigh enjoys working with a range of media including photography, sculpture, installation, performance and collage. They have recently focused on textiles through embroidery and tufting to create that contrast in material and statement.
