Artist Biography

Ali Pickard is a Wrexham-based artist working in 3D and automata building. Previously part of a women’s welding collective for many years in Edinburgh, as well as running socially engaged projects within Wales and South America.

Ali uses craft in a fine art form, working with metal, wood and embroidery. Her work combines story and fairy-tale aspects , and a combination of historical and modern references, especially around women’s stories and who has access to the narrative. Mechanical automata movements engage in playful and thought-provoking ways.
